Comets Win Again
Casey Comets 1 v DandenongCity 0
The Casey Comets notched up another win at home last Saturday in a hard fought match against Dandenong City by a single goal. The rivalry with Dandenong has flowed on between the clubs even after Dandenong's team merger with Chelsea two seasons ago.
It was an opening 15 min that saw the ball going from end to end and the visitors growing in confidence, but the first clear chance that fell Dandenong's way was well saved by Ashley Hupe in the Comets Goal.
Using the same formula as last week, the home team always looked short in mid-field but could explode in attack and this seemed to be the pattern in the first half. Just before half-time the Comets took the lead when, from a Jarryd Barnes long throw-in, John McEvoy looped a header over Josip Clarica into the empty net. McEvoy admitted after the game that the ball made contact with his shoulder which completely deceived Clarica in the Dandenong goal.
In the second half the visitors pounded the Comets goal, but Tony Saunders marshalled his troops and man of the match Ashley Hupe in goals for the Casey team stopped everything and had a little bit of luck on a few occasions. The Comets had a few clear-cut chances in the second half but poor finishing and decision-making meant that the chances went abegging. The visitors could count themselves unlucky but Casey Comets President, Charlie Branca, was delighted at the result and, in his after match speech, took delight in goading rival President Tony Dorotic and still has bragging rights for another few months.
The Ressies continued their fine form against a young inexperienced Dandenong team and won convincingly, despite the final result only showing a 2-0 win.
A goal from Mustafa “Moosty” Nader half way through the first half, and then a goal from Blake Hicks near the end, wrapped up a good solid performance which could see a few of these players push up into the Seniors.
Next week sees the Comets travel to Ross Reserve, Springvale to play top of the table Southern Stars who could only draw with the visitors today. So all being well and the Comets remaining focused, a win would not be out of the question.
Ressies at 1.00pm and Seniors at 3.00pm
On a sad note the Casey Comets wish to extend their condolences to the Ramsden family who lost their only son John during the week in a car accident. John played all his juniors at Cranbourne and only moved to play with Carrum / Skye due to his love of cricket and could not do a prolonged pre-season at the football club.
Paul & Julie Ramsden were at the game on Saturday and thanked everybody for their support during this tragedy.
