Great win for the Comets!
The Casey Comets won away to Doncaster Rovers on Friday night with a spectactular closing ten minutes that saw four goals for the Comets.
With Captain Tony Saunders out due to suspension, and ace midfielder Liam Ryan missing with injury, it was a new look Comets with Gerard Lawler drafted in to the squad.
It went well for the Comets as Farai Murluria (Barnsy) gave them the opening lead in the 6th min when he rifled a shot past Rani Dowisha after the Rovers defence only partially cleared the ball from a Comets corner kick.
This goal seemed to wake the Rovers team up and they took control of the game, and when John Caroll equalised with a low shot from the edge of the box, the Comets knew they were in for a hard game. The Comets midfield of John McEvoy, Brendan Elmazovski and David Terek were working hard but getting frustrated by the tight marking and tackling from the opposition.
Lawlor came on in the second half and with his first couple of tackles he slotted well into the Comets midfield. It was Doncaster who went ahead when from a corner kick Richard Bates popped up unmarked in the six yard box to nod it past Ashley Hupe in goals for the Comets.
Time was not on the Comets' side and Dougie Chisholm sacrificed McEvoy and brought on new recruit Paul Presti and sent him up front alongside Barnsy and Nagus Henry. Within a few minutes the Comets were awarded a penalty when Barnsy was felled in the box and he notched up his second of the night when he belted it past Dowisha on the 81st min.
With this goal, the Comets lifted and from a half clearance after a corner kick by the Rovers defence, Elmazovski pounced and from the edge of the box he drove it into the net with a great left foot drive off the post to make it 3-2 to the Comets on the 83rd min. There was no stopping the Comets now and Presti made it 4-2 in the 85th min with a clever little chip over Dowisha.
Nagus wrapped it up with the best goal of the night when latched on to a Presti through-ball, outpaced his opponent and put it in the top corner with great aplomb giving Dowisha no chance.
A great win for the Comets which puts them back in the top four.
The Ressies had a disappointing night going down 5-3 to a team well below them in the league.
Next week sees the Comets at home to the third top team Diamond Valley who always give them a competitive game.
